1. Comprehensive Risk Mitigation & Pre-Trip Planning
Terrain Explorer Nepal operates on a foundation of proactive risk management. Before setting foot on any trail, users are required to complete a digital Pre-Trip Safety Checklist within the mobile application. This checklist cross-references your proposed itinerary with known trail hazards, current elevation profiles, and the user’s self-reported fitness level. Our system enforces the mandatory registration of an emergency point of contact (trusted third party) and a strict "Expected Return Time" (ERT) for every off-grid excursion launched through the platform.
2. Advanced Real-Time Telemetry & Tracking Protocols
While operating within active cellular coverage or utilizing linked satellite transceivers (such as Garmin inReach or Garmin-compatible API bridges), the platform captures and transmits compressed telemetry packets. These packets include precise coordinate data, elevation metrics, device battery thresholds, and moving velocity. In high-altitude zones above 3,000 meters, our proprietary algorithmic monitoring detects prolonged periods of immobility or unexpected erratic vertical descents, which automatically flags the user profile for closer operational monitoring at our Kathmandu headquarters.
3. Satellite Communication Integration & SOS Escalation
For remote regions lacking terrestrial cellular architecture (including but not limited to sections of the Dolpo, Kanchenjunga, and Upper Mustang circuits), Terrain Explorer Nepal utilizes low-bandwidth, asynchronous data transmission. In the event that a user triggers the in-app emergency distress sequence, the application executes a multi-tiered SOS protocol:
• Tier 1: Localized broadcast to nearby app users via Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) mesh networks where applicable.
• Tier 2: Transmission of last known coordinates and medical telemetry to the Himalayan Rescue Association (HRA) and regional emergency dispatchers.
• Tier 3: Mobilization of registered private helicopter charter networks if emergency evacuation coverage has been pre-verified in the user's profile.
4. Environmental & Weather Contingency Protocols
The Himalayan microclimate is notoriously volatile. Terrain Explorer Nepal syncs continuously with localized meteorological arrays and Department of Hydrology and Meteorology (DHM) data feeds. In the event of sudden severe weather anomalies, flash flood warnings in river valleys, or elevated avalanche risks on high-altitude passes (e.g., Thorong La, Cho La), the platform pushes high-priority, audio-overridden alerts to the mobile device. If the device is completely offline, cached safety directives for the nearest verified emergency shelters, tea houses, or geographic escape routes are automatically rendered on the offline map interface.
1. Legal Agreement and Scope of Service
Welcome to Terrain Explorer Nepal (the "Service," "Platform," or "Application"), owned and operated by Terrain Explorer Nepal Pvt. Ltd. By downloading, installing, accessing, or utilizing this mobile application, its mapping data, routing engines, or offline vector assets, you explicitly acknowledge that you have read, understood, and agreed to be legally bound by these comprehensive Terms and Conditions. If you do not agree to these terms, you are strictly prohibited from using the platform and must immediately uninstall the application from your device.
2. Nature of Information & Absolute Disclaimer of Liability
The digital cartography, topographical data, route generations, altitude profiles, and trail conditions provided by Terrain Explorer Nepal are intended solely for general informational and recreational planning purposes. Nature in the high-altitude regions of Nepal is dynamic, volatile, and inherently hazardous. Landslides, rockfalls, glacial shifting, sudden blizzards, and infrastructural damage can instantly render the platform’s suggested routes inaccurate, dangerous, or completely impassable.
TERRAIN EXPLORER NEPAL DOES NOT GUARANTEE THE ACCURACY, SAFETY, OR SAFETY OF ANY ROUTE. The user assumes absolute, unilateral responsibility and all inherent risks associated with outdoor navigation, wilderness exploration, trekking, and high-altitude mountaineering. Under no legal theory—whether contract, tort, or strict liability—shall Terrain Explorer Nepal, its developers, founders, partners, or data suppliers be held liable for any direct, indirect, incidental, consequential, or punitive damages, including but not limited to physical injury, psychological trauma, altitude sickness, medical emergencies, rescue costs, or loss of life resulting from the use or misuse of the platform.
3. User Responsibilities, Preparedness, and Local Laws
As a user of this platform, you certify that you possess the physical fitness, technical gear, acclimatization awareness, and wilderness survival skills necessary to undertake the itineraries you plan. You are strictly required to adhere to all local regulations enforced by the Government of Nepal, the Department of National Parks and Wildlife Conservation (DNPWC), and local municipalities (Gaupalikas). This includes obtaining all mandatory Trekking Information Management System (TIMS) cards, national park entry permits, and restricted area permits prior to departure. The platform’s inclusion of a route does not constitute a legal right of entry or an endorsement to bypass official checkpoints.
4. Intellectual Property Rights & Prohibited Usage
All digital assets contained within the application—including our custom rendered offline vector maps, proprietary routing logic, elevation models, interface designs, brand assets, and textual content—are the exclusive intellectual property of Terrain Explorer Nepal. Users are granted a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable license to download and utilize the map data on a single mobile device solely for personal, non-commercial navigation.
You are strictly prohibited from:
• Scraping, extracting, or reverse-engineering our offline map databases or proprietary source code.
• Utilizing our data feeds to build a competing mapping or navigation product.
• Redistributing or reselling any portion of our map packages, GPX coordinates, or localized safety indexes without explicit, written, and notarized corporate consent.
1. Information Collection: Transparency in the Field
Terrain Explorer Nepal is deeply committed to protecting the privacy of our global and local trekking community. To provide reliable offline navigation, safety alerts, and emergency synchronization, we must collect specific technical and behavioral datasets.
This data collection includes:
• Precise Location Data: The application requires continuous access to your mobile device’s Global Positioning System (GPS) coordinates, even when the application is running in the background or the screen is locked, to accurately plot your real-time position on offline maps and build local telemetry.
• Device Telemetry: We collect hardware-level details, including battery percentage, internal storage availability (to manage large offline map files), compass/magnetometer calibration metrics, and gyroscope data.
• Account Credentials: Basic registration data such as full legal name, email address, emergency contact profiles, insurance policy numbers, and blood type details are securely collected during account initialization.
2. Data Local-First Storing & Synchronization Synchronization Engines
Our mobile architecture prioritizes a "local-first" data storage mechanism. Because internet access is highly fragmented across the Nepalese mountains, all tracking points, route modifications, and saved waypoints are compressed and encrypted locally on your device’s sandbox storage using AES-256 encryption protocols.
When your device establishes an active Wi-Fi or cellular data link, or passes through an IoT-enabled base station on the trail, this cached information is synchronized with our secure cloud servers. This data sync serves two distinct purposes: allowing you to access your routes across multiple personal devices, and keeping a secure cloud backup of your last known location in the event of an emergency search operation.
3. Information Sharing, Disclosure, and Third-Party Access
We maintain a strict stance against the commercialization of user data. Terrain Explorer Nepal does not sell, rent, trade, or monetize your location histories, planned itineraries, or personal details to third-party advertising agencies or data brokers.
Data disclosure only occurs under the following narrow criteria:
• Emergency Rescue Operations: If an active SOS status is initialized, or if your emergency contact files a verified missing person report with our operations desk, we will immediately transmit your complete identity details, insurance parameters, and complete historical location logs to authorized search-and-rescue agencies, helicopter operators, and local administrative bodies.
• Legal Mandate: We will comply with legal data requests only if compelled by a valid legal subpoena or warrant issued by a court of law within the jurisdiction of Nepal.
4. User Sovereignty & Data Retention Control
You retain complete sovereignty over your data. Within the settings profile of the Terrain Explorer Nepal application, users can permanently purge their historical location logs, clear local caches, or request the total deletion of their account profile from our remote databases. Please note that deleting tracking histories while actively on a remote trail will completely incapacitate our team’s ability to retroactively reconstruct your route footprint in an emergency scenario.
